Contrived, self indulgent, full of national stereotypes, with a ludicrous plot. Oh dear. This was no better than the overhyped first movie however, if enjoyment is about the people you're with as much as the quality of the film, it was a fun night. Clothes were cool though! (48 words)

Wow, super violent, super funny, this movie lived up to the hype. The teenager super hero wannabe gets caught up in some real life big crime and has to work with disgraced cop Nick Cage and his bad ass adolescent daughter. Big guns, cool costumes, top tunes. (47 words)

This lengthy (and densely written) book contains 5 intertwining stories which are connected by the pursuit of the ultimate perfume, eternal life and true love. It took a while to see where the tale was going but managed to be very engaging with a neat conclusion. Exhilarating writing. (48 words)

John Travolta and Robin Williams co-star in this buddy movie about a man who suddenly has to look after twin 7 year old children he never knew he had. Fun set pieces and silly side characters but ultimately just a bit lame. These old dogs should know better. (48 words)

Amy Adams makes a vague attempt at a rom com in this cliched story of a woman who follows her boyfriend to Ireland to make a leap year proposal, only to suffer misadventure and fall for the man who helps her. Uninspiring. (42 words)

Slightly cliche'd tale of white young female teacher (Swank) in inner City LA School bringing inspiration to gang land kids. But based on a true story and with Anne Frank as a surprising source of fascination for the kids it was a cut (slightly) above. Watch on TV. Don't buy! (50 words)

A futuristic tale of a world being exploited by humans for its natural resources. The natives commune with nature and an avatar of a human soldier learns their ways and hopes to save them from destruction by humans. A fantastic (if long) film which has special effects AND great acting! (50 words)

Although not very authentic, this Guy Richie adaptation of the Conan Doyle character is a non stop adventure. A bit 'conspiracy theory' as is in vogue but Downey Junior and Law are both well equipped to play the leads. Good support too. Improbable but terribly fun. (46 words)

Don't let the title mislead you, the real traveling in this story is into history. Jono Riley relives some of the seminal moments of his past to make sense of the death of his first love. Engaging story, characters with depth and atmospheric scene setting. Whole book group loved it. (50 words)
