A very well made Dreamworks family movie about 2 kids placed with horrible foster parents (Kudrow and Dillon). They have to hide their dog and eventually find a wonderful derelict hotel for the mutt and numerous other doggy friends. They find themselves and cool adoptive parents too (of course!). (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Bolt (John Travolta) is a canine actor who is forced to face a harsh reality when he runs away in search of his missing owner. On his journey he is assisted by a fat hamster and a grumpy cat. Exciting and original with something for kids and adults. (48 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A boy can escape his childhood when he works out that he can teleport anywhere in the world. He steals from banks to finance his travels. Samuel L Jackson, however, tries to put an end to his jumping. Special effects aside, this film is a real one trick pony! (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Wow, I went into the cinema expecting something fairly light and was not prepared for the billiant, if harrowing, tale of one man's route to his I want to be a millionnaire answers. It was clever yet convincing, worrying and endearing. Acting excellent, setting spectacular. Oscars here we come. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)James McAvoy really chose a stinker! He stars with Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman as a bored office worker who is trained to become a superhuman assassin. What with the "loom of destiny" and frankly loopy story-line, no amount of special effects (and there are *lots*) can redeem this dross. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A thoroughly enjoyable, if predictable, Jim Carrey vehicle based (very very loosely) on Danny Wallace's book of the same name. Carrey's depressed and negative character makes a covenant to say yes to everything and it leads to adventure, arrest on suspicion of terrorism and eventuallly love. Often funny. (48 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A sweet rom-com in which a shy freshman student (James McAvoy) realises his dream of appearing on cerebral English TV quiz show, University Challenge. Set in 1985, the film uses an interesting Thatcherite cultural backdrop and has a very good twist at the end. Watch next time it's on BBC3! (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson play 2 hit men who are sent to Bruges to let the heat die down after Farell's chracter accidentally kills a young boy. Part gangster movie and part expose on the conscience of a for-hire killer. Extremely violent, darkly humorous but also very thought provoking. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A true story of 3 Jewish brothers who avoid detention by the Nazis in Poland by hiding in a forest. They become a beacon for other escapees until a community lives with them in the intollerable conditions. An unselfish act-of-faith by the 3 brothers. Daniel Craig and Jamie Bell star. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This 'thought provoking' rom com starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughen had a fair few laugh out loud moments - often in jokes for mums - but failed to light my Christmas tree. The leads are likeable, the supporting cast quirky but it lacked originality. Fun but nothing new. (49 words)
