Lovely and heartwarming film by Tim Burton with Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney and lots of others. One man's life story, mixed up with a few of his taller tales. (29 words)

Documentary about the US national spelling championships. Not sure who were more interesting, the exceedingly clever kids or the parents, some of whom were frighteningly pushy. (26 words)

Vin Diesel is an extreme sports fan turned special agent who is sent to Prague. The acting is bad, very bad, but the action makes up for it. (28 words)

Superbly acted story about the developing friendship between an aging American actor (Bill Murry) and the young wife of a photographer who is left alone in Tokyo for a week (Scarlet Johannson). Very funny moments but also poignant. Certainly made me want to visit Japan. (45 words)

Part drama part documentary about a fairly disastrous climbing trip to Peru. Rating should not be taken as a sign of enjoyment because, while very good, this film was not really designed as entertainment. (34 words)

Tom Cruise is the grizzled American hero recruited to help the Japanese government, captured and converted to the way of the Samurai. The battle scenes are spectacular and there is far more in the way of character development than expected. Great acting from all. (44 words)

Sandra Bullock takes a slightly different role as a damaged cop, still coping with the after effects of an attempt on her life, while trying to solve a murder carried out by two bored and overly clever teenagers. Not bad for a Saturday evening flick. (45 words)

Odd and charming cartoon about a young man obsessed by cycling who gets kidnapped and taken to America by the French mafia to participate in illegal indoor cycling races for money. He is rescued by his Grandma with the help of a strange singing trio and a fat dog. (49 words)

Visually beautiful but emotionally cold story of painting and Holland in the seventeenth century. Colin Firth and Scarlett Johanson star. (20 words)
