Not everyone’s cup of tea but this combination of hard & fast riffs and great melody starts to grow on you after a while. Definitely worth a listen, as Josh Homme’s guitar playing is spot-on. Stand out tracks are “Medication”, “I Never Came” and “Little Sister”. (46 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A brilliant debut album from this artist. Despite the cynical critics labelling her as bland, I think there is a great variation in styles across this release. She’s got amazing musical talent, and after seeing her play “Tangled up in Blue” at a Bob Dylan tribute, she’s won me over. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)There are a great collections of songs on this album, his major label debut, ranging from the funky “Used to Love you” to the mellow “Ordinary People”. Collaborations with Kayne West and Snoop Dogg work very well, infusing seamlessly into his style of music. (44 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This soundtrack for a new animated children’s film doesn’t disappoint. The songs are very catchy, and before you know it you’ll be humming “Replace, reuse, recycle” on the train to work. Highlight of the album is a duet with Ben Harper on “With My Own Two Hands”. (47 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Nizlopi are in the same league as The Arctic Monkeys in that they have bypassed the marketing machines of major record labels and have become huge the old fashioned way – word of mouth. This is a great acoustic-based release, containing very honest and catchy tunes. Definitely worth a listen (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)They say sometimes the older an artist gets, the worst their new material becomes. It’s quite the opposite with Paul Weller. I’d rate this album up there with his “Stanley Road” release, with a range of styles illustrated by tracks like “Blink as you’ll Miss it” and “Roll Along Summer”. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This show stands out as one of the most diverse I’ve seen in a while, covering the jazz, reggae and funk genres all at once. Backed by a talented group of musicians, Courtney had the crowd waving their hands in the air and jumping up and down right until 11:30pm. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Any fan of these Seattle stalwarts would have loved this show, with old classics from “Amazing Disgrace” mixed in with newer material. Ken Stringfellow’s very active performance (bouncing around, lots of spitting on stage) coupled with Jon Auer’s Slash-like guitar poses made for a very entertaining tongue-in-cheek evening. | 0 Comment(s)If you liked the industrial angst-ridden metal mayhem of past Nine Inch Nails releases, you won't be disappointed with this one. The tempo is slowed down on tracks like "All the love in the World” and “Home”, which works well, otherwise Trent Reznor pumps it out hard and fast. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Bob played half this set acostic and half electric. Some of the songs came from his latest offering 'Body of Song' but the majority were from his awesome back-catalogue of solo and band work. Highlights included Hoover Dam, Makes No Sense At All and Wishing Well. Great musician! (48 words)
