Poignant and very funny story about the WI ladies who do a nude calendar. Great performances and lots of fun cameos. Gets a bit silly once they go to LA though. (31 words)

Billed as a rom-com, I found little humour and more than a pinch of sadness in this subtitled film of a group of Lebanese hairdressers in Beirut. Affairs, senility, sex before marriage and other neuroses to boot are the sub-plots here. Well filmed but far too worthy for me! (49 words)

This relatively short novel was a great debut by one of America's best-known horror writers. The story of Carrie and her high school ordeal is unravelled in the context of her orthodox upbringing, adding an eerie feeling to the dramatic climax on Prom Night. A great read. (47 words)

This Heath Ledger vehicle should be called Casanova Light! Ledger plays the famous lover and, while it's obvious why this movie didn't break box office records, it's amusing - but expect a farce and nothing more. Jeremy Iron's inquisitor character is well observed. Enjoyed mainly for the views of Venice! (50 words)

I was surprised by the blonde Bond but quite a good film, not the usual "he just gets the girl" bond film, but I still prefer the Timothy Dalton & Roger Moore personally, but saying that the car chases & film lived up to expectations, worth seeing. Generally good. (49 words)

James Bond returns and Daniel Craig is perfect for the role! The film has a baddy with a funny scar on his face, a Bond Girl with a funny accent but most of all, it has a plot and not too much product placement! Great escapism and thrills! (48 words)

Tom Hanks plays an FBI agent chasing Leo Di Caprio, a 16 year old conman, who steals over $4 million by cashing fake cheques. Spielberg is on fine form as he recreates 60s America flawlessly and brings us an unsentimental yet still entertaining Christmas movie. (45 words)

A film which falls into the "so bad it's good" category. The story makes no sense, the acting is appalling and the deliberate jokes aren't funny but even with all of that you just find the time flying away. Berry half-naked throughout probably helps with this. Definite Saturday popcorn flick. (50 words)

A very sweary Luke "Bros" Goss plays the eopnymous Charlie, a 60s London gangster contemporary of the Krays. Exceedingly violent, over the top swearing and very poor acting make this a film well worth steering clear of. Having recently seen Layer Cake this is such a disappointment. (47 words)

It's 2027 - the world's population has become sterile. Anarchy is around the corner in an England where refugees are treated with Nazi-like measures. Clive Owen's character has to get a 'fugee woman to safety. She is the only pregnant woman in England. Bleak and tense. (46 words)

Set in England in 2027 where all people are infertile we follows Clive Owen as he tries to help a pregnant woman escape, what starts as an interesting study on controlling government changes into a top class chase movie. Some superb sequences and excellent, if bleak, vision of the future. (50 words)

The amazing account of growing up with gangland life in the slums of Rio de Janeiro in the 1960s and 1970s. The film follows 5 or so of the key players and is narrated by the outsider on the inside, Rocket. Disturbing at times but a real eye-opener. (48 words)

These post-punk teenagers are very good indeed. They are in the process of being signed by a major record label and you can hear why! Clarky Cat are influenced by Joy Division but their songs move them above teenage wannabies. 'Sightline' and 'Falling Into Place' are standouts. (47 words)

Okay, the premise is a horrid commercial pastiche of classical music. But, for me, and our seven month old daughter, this has been an initiation of sorts - see my other reviews under music! From Debussy, Tchaikovsky through to Bach ("..ahh...Bach...") and Gluck, this album is peaceful bathtime fodder! (49 words)

Based on the boardgame Cluedo, this mid 1980s movie, which I have just found on DVD, is a complete classic. With Tim Curry in the lead role and three possible endings it is a murder mystery caper which romps along. An old favourite full of quotable dialogue and fun performances. (50 words)

A lame duck 'mockumentary' comedy Brit-flick about a wedding magazine competition to find the 'most original' wedding. The couples who enter are, variously, tennis enthusiasts, naturists and musical theatre fans. The film charts the battle between the requirements of the competition organisers and the frankly dull couples. Pointless escapism. (49 words)

This is Keanu Reeves trying very hard to recreate the first of the Matrix films and failing. Not that this is a bad movie, there's just no magic. All the ingredients are there - mysticism (or religion in this case), special effects, non-sensical plot line. Not bad, just not good. (50 words)

Interesting idea where a corporate spy is brainwashed and planted in a competitor's firm. A very complicated script, shot in quite a different way; washed out colour when we are with the brainwashed hyper real when not. The problem is there are so many twists they almost become predictable. (49 words)
