| 0 Comment(s)Despite rave reviews elsewhere this movie didn't sit well with me. A real combination of film with a message and mindless musical which had some stand out individual performances but a few scenes which seemed facile. Anything with Queen Latifa has some class but John Travolta in a dress, gross. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Will Smith is excellent in this movie about a man, Hancock, with super-human powers who losesw his public support and is an alcoholic. A small-time PR man aims to get him on the straight and narrow and then Hancock discovers 'another of his kind'. Good but Story-line didn't run together. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Babylon Direct acts as a greeting card shop where you can buy real-life greeting cards, but they've different language cards - a great use of the web! Nice clean site. Quick and easy to use. Gets me voting! (38 words)
| 1 Comment(s)An animated Disney film about a penguin looking to find love with support of friends and support of family. An excellent film, great graphics and good music a catchy film definatly worth watching and one you can watch again, comically known as "slappy Feet" for the tap dancing. (48 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This band's being compared to a combination of The Streets and the Clash. Not a bad starting point and you can definitely hear the influences with the slightly ska / punky beats and the inventive lyrics. Cash Machine and Feltham Is Singing Out are the stand out tracks for me. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)By far the fastest moving of the Harry Potter movies. The story moves perhaps too fast and the action is frantic, although it does still take time to develop the main characters. A lot of the book is missing though, not sure how non readers will keep up. (48 words)
| 0 Comment(s)The third of the Harry Potter series sees a more grown up cast and plot. Harry and his friends face danger from an escaped prisoner who is trying to get to Hogwarts and have to undertake powerful magic to protect themselves. A valiant effort given the length of the book. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A really quite odd concept - a murder trial in a WWII POW camp. I have issues with both Colin Farrell and Bruce Willis so maybe that coloured me against the film from the start but somehow it just didn't... work. The redeeming character is the camp commandant. (48 words)
| 0 Comment(s)You won't have great hopes for this Chris Rock self penned, directed, produced and acted effort. Unfortunately it provides even less. For a movie which professes to be a comedy I didn't laugh once, instead I was left open mouthed at the crass "humour" of a one joke fool. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A classy comic to movie conversion with impressive effects and some good performances. The story is pretty tough to get into for the uninitiated, but if you're a fan of the comic this will be superb. For me (a newcomer to the franshise) this was a pretty good introduction. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Let there be no doubt: this album is very very good. What is frustrating is how good it nearly is. The songs are original, wistful, memorable, but it doesn't quite lift you and hold you there as true genius can. Nonetheless, a very worthy addition to any album collection. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This NBC series is hugely impressive in casting, storyline and budget. The background is that a group of people discover they have "super" abilities that they need to use to save the world, but rather than the Superman setup, these are "real" people in todays world. Entertaining stuff so far. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A romcom (datedoc helps gorgeous women find hopeless men attractive), that started slowly, but gathered itself to be an enjoyable comedy written for Will Smith's acting. I'd imagine the views of NY good for reminiscing if you've ever visited. Worth a look if not looking for a worthy film. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This is really not as bad as everyone says. As long as you don't expect the movie to be a faithful adaptation of the book I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. The effects are good, Freeman makes a good Arthur Dent and the few jokes which remain are still good. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Brit flick black comedy made good - this tale of a diverse group of people on a northern alottment has the usual mix of gritty realism and heartwarming tales. Full of recognisables, this film managed to tackle issues of immigration and cauliflowers in one film. Pretty enjoyable all round. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Bruce Willis is the action movie guy to go to and he doesn't disappoint here. There's nothing really new in this story of a cop trying to free a family from their home. But you don't want new from Willis, he is so good at the things we already know. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Not quite as good as Shaun of the Dead but still a cut above your average comedy schlock. So many little references to cop movies you could probably watch it five or six times and not pick them all up. An excellent comedy with the cream of British comedy acting. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A very funny police film made by the people of "shaun of the dead" but rather tatty! Worth watching but you can loose the plot and the "cheesey music" is a dead give away. (34 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Had lots of thoughts on how best to review this movie but all that needs to be said is that the whole cinema laughed all the way through. You can't ask more than that. (34 words)
| 2 Comment(s)A very well made Dreamworks family movie about 2 kids placed with horrible foster parents (Kudrow and Dillon). They have to hide their dog and eventually find a wonderful derelict hotel for the mutt and numerous other doggy friends. They find themselves and cool adoptive parents too (of course!). (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A beautiful Chinese film about a blind courtesan who is revealed as a member of the Flying Daggers, a guerilla insurgency. The choreography/cinematography are breathtaking, the use of colour exquisite. The story line is proposterous, though that may be a very Western view. I laughed where I wasn't supposed to. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Simon Pegg is an abnoxious journalist with hiddden depths in this comedy which also stars Jeff Bridges and Kirsten Dunst. Set mostly in New York it depicts his rise to celebrity magazine success, but at what cost to his integrity and his true love? Enjoyable but hopefully not too realistic. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Exploring the cult of the Microsoft puzzle interview, the title is one of the most famous of the "impossible" interview questions. The book looks at the history and a lot of other examples. An interesting read even if you are not in the interview business, especially if you like puzzles. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This combination printer, scanner and photocopier offers the small home office or business a great tool. With quality output and a (relatively) fast throughput of pages this is a good, cheap option. Not good for high volume or really high end photos but as a general workhorse can't be beaten. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This 1983 release is probably the best Husker Du album. In parts, it is incredibly personal ('Broken Home Broken Heart' and 'Whatever') and, throughout, it is exceptionally angry ('Never Talking To You' and 'Pride'). Bob Mould sings most of the songs here and his voice is great. Alternative rock brialliance. (50 words)
