Not usually a fan of the Coen brothers but this is a genuinely good film. Having watched Big Fish recently it has very much the same feeling of slightly fantastical exageration. Clooney makes a good fist of comedy acting and is ably supported by a talented cast. (47 words)

This is a triumphant return to form the for the Mancunians. Even if you hate their swaggering machismo you can't deny that they write good Beatles, Stone and Kinks rip offs. The singles Layla and the Importance of Being Idle are excellent. Especially the video of the latter. (48 words)

This stylish (and forgettable) sequel to the remake of the rat-pack heist movie sees the most far-fetched plot ever. That said, this is great fun and, provided that you can suspend disbelief, it is worth the $11 (watched at Loewe's on 42 St in NY). Eye candy but no more! (50 words)

It would be difficult to be worse that Ocean's 12, luckily the most recent installment is very much better. Any attempt at a story is thrown aside, instead all the cast just have a good time and play the cool superstars they are. Totally brainless but good none the less. (50 words)

Mike Judge's accutely observed satire on office politics is a strange beast. The atmosphere and characters working in the office are spot on and yet the story itself is lacking. It descends rapidly into farce. However, if you've worked in an office (especially IT) you will recognise much here. (49 words)

John Travolta and Robin Williams co-star in this buddy movie about a man who suddenly has to look after twin 7 year old children he never knew he had. Fun set pieces and silly side characters but ultimately just a bit lame. These old dogs should know better. (48 words)

by Dominic Holland. This novel, which looks at the trials of getting a movie script to Hollywood, is more fantastical than fantastic. The coincidences and near misses between characters are more annoying than Clockwise and Planes Trains and Automobiles put together. Only slightly redeemed by the neat ending. (48 words)

by Marian Keyes. Another great read from this ever popular Irish writer. Written from the perspectives of several of the leading characters, at first this novel seems to jump around alot but becomes more satisfying as the tales converge. So much better than the average chick lit tale. (48 words)

Slow to get going and ultimately just a rehash of past thrillers. Denzel Washington plays a cop who is double-crossed to get at drug money. All the ingredients are there it's just all too obvious. It's only Washington and John "Star Trek: Enterprise" Billingsley who keep the whole thing going. (50 words)

An interesting, if unbalanced, documentary about Fox News, the American conservative 24 hour "news" channel and how it goes about distorting facts or just plain ignoring them. Unfortunately the documentary itself is so one sided that it loses a lot of the power it could have had. (47 words)

This is a double album which makes no sense to me. The Love Below is a superb blend of innovative tracks including the pop sensation Hey Ya. But Speakerboxxx is derivative, uninvetive rap trash. I hope that the rumours of Andre 3000 going it alone prove to be true. (49 words)
