Don't let the title mislead you, the real traveling in this story is into history. Jono Riley relives some of the seminal moments of his past to make sense of the death of his first love. Engaging story, characters with depth and atmospheric scene setting. Whole book group loved it. (50 words)

Thought provoking, engrossing, insightful, frlghtening. This is a spectacular book set in a very near future London where a catastrophic terrorist attack on a Chelsea/ Arsenal derby profoundly affects the lives of one mother who decides to tell her story to Osama in a letter. Requires concentration but brilliant. (49 words)

This post-apocalyptic novel sees a starving father and son team struggling south with few possessions in an attempt to find survivors and warmth in a world that has come to an end. The prose is haunting, beautiful and violent. Makes you realise that our grasp on the world is fragile. (50 words)

The Guardian review of this mystery thriller is not complimentary, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. While the exciting tale of murder, kidnap, code breaking and religious symbolism is Di Vinci Codesque, the setting is grittier and the characters more sympathetic. Fast paced, engaging and well worth a read. (49 words)

I'm not much for self help books but Yes Man changed my life, for the better. Since reading how Danny Wallace said Yes to every oppurtunity given him I have been saying yes to more myself and things are better for that. Read it, love it, be inspired. (48 words)

Dickens magic-fest pits two magicians against each other in the shadow of the Napoleonic threat. Add the melancholic and sinister intrusion of Faerie and you have one of the most intriguing fantasy novels for years. Worth the read, even if you don't care for the genre. (46 words)

Everybody thinks this is a book about e waste. It's not. It's about how we came to accept the fact that things break all the time and we have to replace them. There's 100 years of fascinating history in this book with good stories about condoms, radio and nylons. Enjoy! (50 words)

This book is amazing. Christopher, whose neighbour's dog is killed, decides to try and solve the mysterious death and write a detective book about it. In writing his book, Christopher tells his (and his family's) story of dealing with his autism. It made me cry and laugh. (47 words)
