Winner of the UK Mercury Music Prize 2005 & what a deserved winner. Antony's voice is beautifully haunting & unlike anything you've heard before. The track 'Hope Theres Someone There For Me' is so emotionally grinding it will have you in tears but ones that you will want to shed (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This is a wonderful album from the former front-man of Sugar and Husker Du. Bob switches between his new-found passion for dance/electronica ('Shine Your Love Light Hope') and his more traditional punk-rock heratige (Paralysed) and each song draws you in. His best work since Copper Blue! (46 words)
| 0 Comment(s)There's been lots of press about the 'Monkeys and, on the basis of this record, a lot of it is deserved. They are the Carter USM of the 2000s with social commentary similar to The Streets added in! Standouts include 'Dancing Shoes' and 'Fake Tales of San Francisco' (48 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A music journalist rather cheekily suggesting that "the world wasn't ready for Salad". This compilation of their mid-1990's (their zenith) singles is ace - simple (and possibly a bit one-dimensional) guitar based indie-pogo tunes which are led by the stunning Marijne. 'Kent' and 'Diminsihed Clothes' evoke happy University memories! (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Admittedly I was quite reserved when I gave it a first listen, probably because I had “Innervisions” firmly entrenched in my mind as his best release. But I must confess, it’s grown on me, with tracks like “So What the Fuss” serving as a reminder of his great talent. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)A great double release - the first disc with the heavier tunes, with the second of a more acoustic nature. Yet another indication of the band’s versatility and the insistence of Dave Grohl to make his mark based in own musical talent rather than rely purely on his Nirvana past. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Nizlopi are in the same league as The Arctic Monkeys in that they have bypassed the marketing machines of major record labels and have become huge the old fashioned way – word of mouth. This is a great acoustic-based release, containing very honest and catchy tunes. Definitely worth a listen (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)They say sometimes the older an artist gets, the worst their new material becomes. It’s quite the opposite with Paul Weller. I’d rate this album up there with his “Stanley Road” release, with a range of styles illustrated by tracks like “Blink as you’ll Miss it” and “Roll Along Summer”. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This show stands out as one of the most diverse I’ve seen in a while, covering the jazz, reggae and funk genres all at once. Backed by a talented group of musicians, Courtney had the crowd waving their hands in the air and jumping up and down right until 11:30pm. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)If you liked the industrial angst-ridden metal mayhem of past Nine Inch Nails releases, you won't be disappointed with this one. The tempo is slowed down on tracks like "All the love in the World” and “Home”, which works well, otherwise Trent Reznor pumps it out hard and fast. (49 words)
