Maybe I was looking forward to this too much but it is not as good as Original Pirate Material. The first half of the album isn't great but it does get better for the last six songs. Standouts are "Fit but you know it" and "Dry your eyes". Not Bad. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Never heard of these guys before, but the album is quite catchy, with a couple of strong tracks at the start. It reminds me a bit of Train, and I could easy listen to this one over and over again. (40 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Some good, plain Australian rock. It doesn't try to be anything else and because of that is a must have album for when you are just looking for guitars, drums and classic riffs. You'll already know Are You Gonna Be My Girl, the rest is more of the same. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Sounding like Elton John on a funk trip this would not normally be my sort of music but it is all so unashamedly upbeat and happy that you can't help liking it. Whether they will survive beyond this is questionable but for this one album everything falls into place. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Difficult to be objective about this as I am inclined to think that the album title says it all, but I am a professional reviewer so would have to say, overall pretty good but the more recent stuff doesn't quite live up to classics Save a Prayer and Wild Boys (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Another album which snuck up on me, it is their third but the first that I have heard. A combination of Feeder-like guitar and The Doves vocals is a good start and original tracks lead to an excellent album. They also have a really well designed web-site by the way. (50 words)
| 0 Comment(s)I don't understand why Alabama 3 are not more successful, I mean there is a huge market for London based "country house"! You will know them from the theme tune to The Sopranos. You should know them from this album. You'll be transported to an updated old west feeling. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)Franz Ferdinand's eponymous album is an absolute stonker! Having the same singalong value as Athlete but with a bit more rock and in some cases even sounding a bit Bowie-ish it is an uplifting blend of tracks that will fit perfectly into a summer evening with a few beers. (49 words)
| 0 Comment(s)This release compiles a number of cds and EPs from Pulp before they became radio friendly. Songs like 'Will To Power', 'Little Girl' and 'Dogs Are Everywhere' (a different version of which appeared as a B-side on Common People) showcase a dark and brooding Pulp dealing with 1980s life. | 0 Comment(s)Not everyone’s cup of tea but this combination of hard & fast riffs and great melody starts to grow on you after a while. Definitely worth a listen, as Josh Homme’s guitar playing is spot-on. Stand out tracks are “Medication”, “I Never Came” and “Little Sister”. (46 words)
